What drives the cost of a trenchless repair: the access pits, mostly
The liner is a modest part of it. Where the crew can get in, how long the run is, and how many laterals have to be cut back open is most of the rest.
Trenchless does not mean no digging. It means digging in one or two small places instead of along the whole line. Understanding what those places cost is understanding the quote.
1. Access points
A liner has to be launched from somewhere. On a municipal line that is usually an existing manhole and costs nothing to create. On a house lateral it is frequently a cleanout, which also costs nothing. Where neither exists, a pit has to be excavated, and its cost follows the same logic as any excavation: depth, and what is on top.
A single accessible cleanout at the right end of the line is the difference between a straightforward job and a two-pit job. This is the first thing the survey establishes, and it is also the first thing that moves the price of the survey itself.
2. Length, and the fact that it is not linear
Longer runs spread the mobilization cost over more feet, so the price per foot falls with length. Very long runs then need larger equipment and more careful cure control, and it rises again. The cheapest foot of lining is somewhere in the middle, which is why a per-foot figure quoted without a length is meaningless, and part of why no online calculator can answer this.
3. Laterals
Every branch connection has to be located before lining and cut back open afterwards with a robotic cutter. Each one is time, and each one is a place to get it wrong. A commercial building with twelve connections on one run is a different job from a house with one. Reopening them is one of the five lines on a lining quote.
4. Cleaning, which is sometimes the largest line
Heavy scale in old cast iron, hardened grease in a restaurant line, a root mass, or years of debris in a line that has been backing up. Cleaning is priced from what the camera shows, and on a badly deteriorated line it can exceed the lining itself.

5. Bypass and flow control
The pipe has to be dry to be lined. On a house lateral that means not using the water for a few hours. On a live main, or a commercial building that cannot stop, it means pumping the flow around the work, which is equipment, hoses and attendance for the duration.
6. Permits, traffic and hours
Work in the public right of way brings a permit, a traffic management plan, sometimes a bond, and frequently a restriction on working hours that lengthens the job. Municipal and commercial constraints are covered under municipal work.
